Shanghai. Spicy Horse Games, the creative force behind “Alice: Madness Returns,” “BigHead BASH,” and “American McGee’s Grim” announced today the launch of the Open Beta for “Akaneiro: Demon Hunters.”
Based on the Little Red Riding Hood story combined with Japanese folklore and myth, and illustrated in Spicy Horse’s unique dark fantasy style, “Akaneiro: Demon Hunters” is an action-RPG that lets players hunt legendary monsters in Edo-era Japan.
The open beta will include new developments such as advanced character training, weapon improvements, and the still-under-development Shivering Pines, which brings a new environment style to the game along with a new tribe of imps wielding frost magic.
To play, prospective hunters need only visit the official Akaneiro website at http://www.angry-red.com and click the Open Beta button to sign up. Open Beta will run until January 16th and will consist of various stress tests designed to ensure the servers and infrastructure are ready for the launch of the game.

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters Kickstarter Update
As of Wednesday morning, the Akaneiro Kickstarter is already over $50,000 and the team is beginning to make decisions about stretch goals. If you’d like to link to the Kickstarter video, they’ve thrown it up on Youtube .
After some vocal requests from the Linux community (and being a big fan of Linux himself), American decided to add a Linux version of the game to their streatch goals. As a bonus, he also added a Tux-inspired penguin pet to the reward tiers. You can see the (awesome) art to the right.
More tiers and rewards are on the way (they added a hardcover art book as I was writing this!), so make sure to check the Kickstarter page if you want regular updates.
